Accelerators are used in the curing of polyester and vinyl ester resins with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) type catalysts. Accelerators can be added by the manufacturer prior to adding catalyst to the resin. The purpose of cobalt-based accelerators is to speed up the curing reaction of polyester and vinyl ester resins and allow them to cure at room temperature. The cobalt-based accelerator helps the catalyst to start the chemical reaction between the resin and styrene monomer and form a cured solid.

This is most active primary drier widely used in coatings and as a oxidation catalyst (surface drier) It has the highest level of activity in promoting autooxidation. It promotes the catalytic action of methyl ethyle Ketone peroxide to unsaturated polyester reins through polymerization process.In combination to other Octoates it is highly exceptable as a paint drier in paint industry.
